How To Prepare For Your Detox

WoooHooo I’m so happy you’re here because that means you’ve decided or are getting close to moving forward on a Functional Medicine Detox and I couldn’t be happier for you!

This is a truly life-changing program that has helped 10’s of 1000’s of people change their health, and you’re next!

It was one of the most game-changing things I’ve done on my 8-year health journey.

This is such a simple and straight forward detox, and the detox itself comes with all the instructions you need, but after supporting so many through the detox, I’ve compiled some tips on how you can prepare to have the best experience.

If you haven’t already, you can order your 7, 14, or 21 day detox here. I highly recommend the 21-day program if this is your first time, or if you’re just planning on doing 1-2 a year. It will provide the greatest benefits to your mind and body!

Now, let’s dive into preparing your body, mind, family, and kitchen for this journey you’re about to embark on.

Prepare Your Body

  • Make sure you are pooping everyday(twice a day is best), as pooping is crucial for eliminating toxins from your body. If you struggle in this area, try drinking warm lemon water with sea salt each morning or using other methods such as abdominal massage, magnesium citrate, dry brushing, fiber-rich foods, and coffee enemas to keep things moving.
  • Support your liver bile ducts as they play a significant role in gut and liver health and detoxification. Drinking warm lemon water with sea salt, dandelion tea, milk thistle tea, and coffee enemas can help keep your liver bile ducts open for optimal detoxification.
  • Gradually decrease your caffeine intake one to two weeks before starting the detox to avoid caffeine withdrawal symptoms that can be mistaken for detox symptoms.
  • Consider taking a binder supplement during the detox to bind and safely remove toxins from your body. This can lessen any detox symptoms you may experience, and increase the amount of toxins your body is able to eliminate.
  • Don’t forget about your lymphatic system, which also plays a crucial role in detoxification.Dry brushing, rebounding, and exercise can help move your lymph and excrete toxins. Stagnation brews disease, so keep yourself and your lymph moving!
  • Sweating is an effective way to release numerous toxins through your skin. Incorporate exercise, warm baths, and infrared sauna use throughout the detox. An infrared sauna is optimal, but a standard sauna can also be powerful in removing toxins from your body.

Prepare Your Mind

  • The success of your detox journey relies heavily on your mindset. It’s essential that you go into the detox believing that you will complete it and that it WILL improve your health.
  • Discover your motivation for doing this detox. What are your reasons for wanting to feel better? What do you envision for your future? Write them down and place them somewhere visible to remind you every day WHY you’re doing this.
  • Identify a mantra or quote that speaks to you and keeps you inspired throughout the process. One of my favorites is, “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better.”

Prepare Your Family

  • It’s important that your family understands your motivation behind doing this detox and how important it is to you. Having their support can be a significant factor in your success.
  • Consider inviting them to join you! Detoxing with family members can make things easier since you can all consume the same types of food.
  • Inform them that you’ll focus on home-cooked meals during the detox, so you won’t be able to eat out with them.
  • Mark your fasting days on the calendar and inform your family that you may experience mood swings as your body adjusts. Request their understanding, and don’t feel guilty for prioritizing your health.

Prepare Your Kitchen

  • Before beginning your detox, it’s important to declutter your pantry and fridge. Either finish the foods that aren’t allowed during the detox or remove them from your sight to avoid temptation. To get an idea of approved foods, refer to the detox kit or this list here.
  • If you need inspiration, consider meal prepping with approved detox recipes. However, ensure you adhere to the approved food item list while cooking.

Performing these extra steps before detox will make this an easier and more enjoyable experience.
